The battle of Hastings
Edward was King of England but he died and he didn’t have any children: he didn’t have a heir.
Harold became King of England but William, the Duke of Normandy, wanted to become king too. William decided to fight against Harold. He crossed the Channel on a boat with a big army. In October 1066, there was the Battle of Hastings. William won the battle, Harold died with an arrow in the eye. So William became the new King of England. He was French so he spoke French and he brought French words into the English language.
