Jazz:
Jazz was invented in New Orleans at the beginning of the 20^th century. The jazz musicians were black. They used cheap instruments such as the guitar, the banjo, the trumpet or the washboard.

Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and Charlie Parker are famous jazz musicians:

Louis Armstrong played the trumpet.

Duke Ellington played the piano.

And Charlie Parker played the saxophone.

Rock’n Roll:

In the 1950s, Black Americans from the South invented Rock’n Roll.

Jazz and Blues combined to make Rhythm’n Blues. (it’s a mixture / mix / fusion / combination of…)

Black people transformed it into Rock’n Roll. Singers were black men.

The best group was the Platters. The King of Rock’n Roll was Elvis Presley: he sang like a black man but he was white.

Rock:

Rock is the evolution of Rock’n Roll.

Pop music appeared in the 1960s and Disco appeared in the 1970 (the crisis made people want to have fun)

The Beatle sang pop music. (Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison)

The Rolling Stones sang Rock.

Hip Hop:

Hip Hop was created in American streets, where black people lived, in the 1980s.

Rap:

Rap artists sang about the problems of black people in the 1990s: racism, social problems and economic problems.
